The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wrightsville Beach Marathon Madness Mile (remembering Eli Willis) is our Friday evening event that kicks off Marathon Madness Weekend. The event was designed to raise awareness of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and honor the memory of Eli Willis a son of one of our committee members, born October 9, 2011. CDH is a rare disease that occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or close totally in the first trimester. Roughly 50% of children born with CDH do not survive and of the 50% that do, most endure long hospital stays and health complications. There is very little research being done and virtually no media coverage despite CDH occurring as frequently as Spina Bifida and Cystic Fibrosis.

The 1-mile starts and finishes at the Marathon and Half Marathon finish line (the same location as the EXPO/Packet Pickup).

Enjoy the company of friends and family, and the comfortable coastal NC weather in March while running for a great cause. We’ll see you out there!

Event Day Information
The 1Mile Run begins at 6:30PM on Friday March 24th at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Campus. On-site registration will be available.
